Typhoon Multipurpose Imager
Reserve Typhoon Here!
Use of this instrument is restricted to members of the Department of Biochemistry. An active account on the department's network is require to access the instrument's control software. In addition, prospective users must clear through the CUE manager. Once clearance has been obtained your name will be added to allow you to reserve time on the Typhoon. Please note the following precautions:
- Take extra care not to scratch the glass surface on which you place your experiment.
- Avoid excess liquid, as solutions containing organic solvents will, overtime, attack the seal which prevents liquid from entering the instrument. Moving your wet gel away from the edges will help also.
- Clean the glass with distilled water and KimWipe(s) when finished.
- Use the web reservation page to reserve or clear time slots.
- Notify the CUE manager if supplies are required or problems exist with the instrument.
- If you move data files to any network drive, ie on biochemnt2, be aware that space is limited in these folders and data older than 30 days may be removed without prior warning. This data should be immediately moved to your local machine.
For your information this typhoon is equipped with a red (633 nm) and green (532 nm) laser. It does not have the 457 nm blue laser. It may be operated in one of three modes; storage phosphor, fluorescence or chemiluminescense. Some relevant Amersham literature is located by the instrument. Additional literature is available at Amersham Biosciences
Storage phosphor uses the red laser for stimulation with a 390nm BP (bandpass) filter. Fluorescence detection may be done using excitation by either of the laser wavelengths and a suitable filter. Available filters are
- 526 SP
- 555 BP
- 390 BP100
- 580 BP
- 610 BP
GE Image Scanner
The Model 300 has been replaced with a flatbed scanner. This scanner with software allows scanning and quantitation of transparent and opaque images.
Allow 5 minutes for the scanner to warm prior to running the software.
